Luminosity:
Spotlight on Emerging Technologies
VoiceXML for the
Enterprise: Deployment Challenges
In this issue of
Luminosity, Ankur Laroia and Leo Sayavedra continue the discussion on
Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) in the final column in a 3
part series on EAI - "A guide to implementing EAI driven technologies"
(for part I and II of this article, please refer to the past two
issues of Luminosity). Ankur and Leo have successfully designed and
implemented EAI strategies and solutions for Fortune 1000 clients
across multiple industries. Wireless Internet is a conundrum to many.
In the Guest Column, "Q&A with Sunil Jain", we hook-up with Sunil
Jain, a wireless industry expert and analyst for Amerindo Investment
Advisors, Inc., a firm specializing in the management of concentrated
emerging technology portfolios. In this discussion, we look at both
the current and future of wireless Internet.

Future of Identification:
Biometrics

In this issue of
Luminosity, we have three enlightening columns. Leo Sayavedra joins
Ankur Laroia to continue the discussion on Enterprise Application
Integration (EAI) in the column, "Business Drivers and Key
Considerations for EAI Projects". Ankur and Leo have successfully
implemented EAI strategies and solutions for clients across multiple
industries. Internet Video has become commonplace; yet, very few sites
have implemented a consumer-friendly, future-ready streaming solution.
In the guest column "Future of Internet Video," Chris Kadoch, VP of
Strategic Planning at Vingage Corporation, introduces us to the new
possibilities of delivering video over the Internet. In the guest
column "I dream of computers," Dr. Dmitry Kaplan provides a commentary
on the increasing complexity of personal computers. Dmitry has
designed and implemented solutions for several industries. His
algorithms (for which he has been awarded many patents) help save
lives (Defibrillator units), ward off wireless fraud (RF
fingerprinting systems), and keep your kids away from unwanted content
(X3-filters).

Computing: Privacy, Personalization, Protection
I n this
Luminosity, we have two enlightening columns. Luminant ’s EAI practice
leader, Ankur Laroia, introduces us to the world of EAI in the first of
his three part series on EAI, in the column "Introduction to EAI".
Ankur is a recognized expert in the implementation of EAI strategies
and solutions. In the column "Optical Internet Infrastructure", Anupam
Singal discusses the advances being made in Optical Internet
technologies. He has over ten years of experience in designing and
implementing broadband optical network solutions.

Position location "today" and "beyond"
The editor's column discusses the
position location mandate, the solutions, and the missing pieces of
the puzzle. Additionally, there are three exciting columns in this
issue of AORTA. In the column, Packet Shaping/Traffic Shaping
Protocols, Geoff Varrall from RTT Programmes discusses packet and
traffic protocols that are becoming important in computing and
communications solutions. In the column, Designing an Effective User
Interface for Inmotion Computing, Lisa Davis from Tangis discusses the

Broadband: Battle of Pipes
The editor's column discusses the
changing landscape of broadband solutions. I am excited to bring you
three excellent thought provoking articles in this issue of AORTA. Our
first piece "Bandwidth and the Creation of Awareness" comes
from a legend – Martin Cooper. A pioneer in the wireless
communications industry, Marty invented and introduced the first
portable cellular phone in 1973, and thus launched an industry that
continues to transform our lives. Thank you Marty.
With complexity and the amount of data increasing
exponentially, deployment of Business Intelligence (BI) systems will
no longer be just for gaining competitive advantage, they will be a
must have to survive and operate an organizational ecosystem. In their
article, "Business
Intelligence Fundamentals - Managing Expectations in the 21st
Century", Larry Michalski
and John Ladley of Knowledge
Interspace/ProVillage, lay the framework for implementing BI
solutions. John and Larry are widely known industry experts in the
area of data warehousing, knowledge logistics, and BI. Finally, in the
knowledge brief from Mobileum, Arshad Ahmed guides us through
the thinking required behind "Developing Compelling Mobile Travel
Solutions". Arshad has worked with several large clients in the
travel and transport industry. Our lives as business travelers will
simplify, as airlines around the world are forced to implement
solutions discussed in this paper.

Adventures in Information
Security

The editor's column takes on the
issues in the information security space. I am pleased and excited to
bring you three AORTA exclusives in this issue. Tod Knight, concludes
his two part series on "Waves of Technology—Expectations and
Reality" and leaves us to ponder on the next wave. David
Quackenbush, who has experienced and lived through several waves,
pens down a thought-provoking column: "Corporate Culture and
Innovation—Can we combine them?". Review and embrace the
characteristics he outlines for an innovative corporate culture. And
finally, this month’s guest column "I dream of computers …"
comes from Dmitry Kaplan. His algorithms (for which he has been awarded many
patents) help save lives (Defibrillator units), ward off wireless
fraud (RF fingerprinting systems), and keep your kids away from
unwanted content (X3-filters).
